Ever since I was a young teenager, I have had a passion for music and the images and feelings it creates, especially the marriage of lyrics and music.
Creativity is a theme running through my life, and without it, I feel incomplete. Since re-establishing my interest in photography, I have challenged myself to explore stories and images in my art. My photography projects are personal, and this one is no different.
This series of visual representations aims to bring together the imagery of songs and photography. My process involved combining multiple shots using the composite tools in Photoshop. Blending modes, filters and other tools were applied to create painterly type pictures showing they are feelings or mental images when I listen to the song.
The pictures don’t change from what I first visualised for each song. However, the feeling generated can be intensified depending on my mood and circumstances at the time of listening.
These visual representations ask the viewer to think about the music and songs they listen to and what images they experience. For some, hearing a song can bring back memories and feelings from a past time.
I chose some of my favourite songs to feature in this project. Some songs have more complex imagery than others which reflects the feelings and experiences I have listening to them.
